5 Tips for Interviewing
With the Career Gallery around the corner, recruiting season is beginning to kick into full gear, and that meand one thing; interviews. This single step in the hiring process is by far the most important and requires an exceptional display of self-motivation and desire to succeed. So in order to stand out above the rest and impress your interviewer to the highest possible level, what should you do?
- 1.) Have a "personal pitch" ready — This 30-45 second overview of who you are, what you are looking for and what you can bring the company will
make all the difference if you tailor it to be unique and authentic. - 2.) Express Enthusiasm — This should be a no-brainer. Make sure the interviewer knows you're glad to be there and that you're more than willing to
discuss your background and what you can bring to the company. Also, a smile (along with being dressed in proper business attire) works hand-in-hand with enthusiasm. - 3.) Do Your Research — Walking into an interview with knowledge about the company and the position you're interviewing for will make your first
impression with the interviewer more memorable. Having done some homeworkto set yourself above the rest shows that you're interestes in the
company as well as being self-aware and mature. - 4.) Take Your Time — Not everyone can answer every interview question perfectly, and neither will you. When you get a tough question, do not lie in
order to answer quickly. Use the "power pause," to take a few seconds for gathering your thoughts and formulate a well thought out answer. This
process expresses maturity and the ability to maintain composure when challenged. - 5.) Persevere — Don't let the interviewer do all of the work, ask questions at the end about the company and the position. Make sure to express the
desire to help further the company's success with you personal attributes.
Jot these 5 tips down, and use them to prepare for your interviews: you're bound to succeed!!!
